I have my Reptisun 10.0 unexposed in a clamp lamp. How far away from the basking spot would you suggest it should be?

Not sure what you mean by unexposed but is it a compact? Is the hood polished or very reflective? The reason I ask is I had a 10.0 compact in a clamp lamp with a white interior for 2 months with no problems. When I switched to a very reflective hood with the bulb mounted horizontally, my three guys started having swollen eyes.
At any rate I say no closer than 12" from the basking area.

By unexposed you mean it has a reflective dome around it?

I have a Reptisun 10.0 compact flourescent in a clamp lamp with an aluminum reflector, and the position is more horizontal than vertical. When it was new, I had it about 10 inches from the turtles. Since it's getting past it's useful life, I've moved it to about 6 inches from them. My turtles have never had any problems with it, even when it was new.

Since the light tends to give of a strange hue, it's good to position the heat source (lightbulb or otherwise) so that your turtle is getting a blend of both lights.

I have the Reptisun 10.0 Compact in a Clamp Lamp. What I meant by unexposed is that I have no covering or hood on it like most people have it in reflective hoods I guess. I would also say it's about six inches from the basking spot, positioned diagonally.

Another question, I don't have much experience with UVB/UVA Compact Bulbs but I can't feel much coming from it, is it the light itself that carries the UV and you're not suppose to feel much heat coming off of it?

Regular UVB lights (like yours) don't give off an appreciable amount of heat, so you need to provide an additional light for heat (can be a reagular light bulb).

It would be good to use a reflector dome with the Reptisun to focus the rays as well as move back the bulb several inches.
