i'm like a neurotic parent, i keep checking on him to make sure he's still moving. i need to stop doing that, i can tell it's stressing him out.

water temps are steady now, i'll be buying a thermometer tomorrow so i can monitor the exact.

i just saw him swimming around! yay!

he wasn't going at record speeds or anything, but he had his head up and he was moving around.

--i did forget to ask the dr. how long i should keep him in quarantine. for as long as i'm doing the treatment, or should i give it extra time?

Hey, glad to hear he's perking up some! :) That's a great sign. Make sure to get a good thermometer so you can make sure he's getting the right temperature.

okay so i gave him his second baytril shot today. he just looked at me, dug his nose down and closed his eyes. like he was refusing to acknowledge me ''darn you lady!!!" then i stick him back in his little tank and he's running around for a bit. about 15 minutes he was running around, splashing through the water, holding his head up. now he's back to the lethargy. did the same thing yesterday, on and off run around. i got a video of him running around, frantically trying to climb out, then he wound back down and went all quiet.

is this something i should be worried about? or is it totally normal?

I would expect it's just part of the recovery process. Like kids when they get sick, they get lethargic, tired, not their usual selves. But as the start to get better they slowly get their energy back, sometimes in spurts. Sounds like he's going to be okay! :D Keep up the TLC!

well i an glad that is a good sign. i know when i get sick i grow restless just lying around. ----my avatar is Aeryn poking her head up under the basking dock. oddly enough, she seems to really be noticing John's absence. she's had on change in behavior aside from hanging out by John's hiding spot turning her head like she's looking for him. John still hasn't eaten :( ---thanks everyone for the good mojo iwould be very sad if something happened. i'm trying to do my best with what i can give.

yay! he finally ate!

i got him a couple rosies, well he has no interest in them right now. but i caught him snacking on some cuttlebone and all the pellets are gone. he's got some squash, too and he ate a little bit of that.

this is the first time he's eaten in over a week. *whew* i'm happy to see it. he's getting much better, bet he can't wait to get back in the big tank!

It's great that John recovered, most of the stories i read with vet visits dont end up too well.

Have you noticed that the survival rate seems to be a lot higher when the turtle gets vet attention immediately when he/she starts showing symptoms? I guess it makes sense that if they need antibiotics and get them right away it would make a difference. Too bad it doesn't always work so well. I recall a couple of instances where the turtles went downhill too fast for the vet to cure them. Still, the odds are better with a quick vet visit.
