I had never taken my turtle outside before, but it's an absolutely beautiful day here (it's gonna be awfully hard to go to class... :D ) and Turtley was looking bored, so i figured i'd go for it. He seemed to really enjoy exploring the yard (as far as i could tell). He even tried to climb the chain link fence, which was entertaining. I supervised him carefully of course! We only stayed out for about 10 minutes because it was his first time and i didn't want to stress him out or anything, and i wasn't really sure how long was good for him to be out anyway. I would be interested to know if anybody takes their turtle out for some fresh air regularly and for how long etc. I was also wondering if it's safe to do it in the summer when it's pretty hot out. I guess it would be, they like to bask in the hot sun, but i sure don't want to bake my little green friend!

I take Sheba outside for 1/2 hour at a time in the summer when it is warm (minimum 70 degrees) & she loves it! It's good for her because she gets very restless in her tank, always wanting to get out of the tank when she sees me. I take her outside & let her walk around in the gigantic yard behind my condo. It's a good outlet for all her restless energy.

Plus, I like that she is getting "real" sunshine & warmth instead of just her MVB lamp.

On the hot summer days, if you do decide to take your turtle outside, make sure he/she has access to some cooler shade.
