You could always make it a little smaller. We just liked being able to sit next to the tanks if we wanted. We also don't have any kids besides the 5 that live in the tanks so we have a little more room.

The basking is about 90, on the warm part of it right under the light. Then the other end is about 80-85. My New Guinnea sleeps on the basking platform but spends awake hours under the water kinda hanging out. He does swim and eat fine. The African helmeted snake neck very rarely goes on the rocks and spends alot more time swimming around. Both are healthy according to the vet.

From what I read about our africans they don't normally bask a lot out og the water but float near the top. Ours will also sit half way up the ramp and hang out there. As long as the vet says he's ok I wouldn't worry.

Well Goose, we have been toying with the idea of expanding our collection. You may not have the real estate for an 8 foot by 4 foot platform, but I'm sure you have 15 square feet and an 8-9 foot wall somewhere in your house to make something snazzy. Man, let me tell you, 2x4's are cheap and can hold up a ton...literally. Moulding isn't that expensive and makes everything look beautiful! And with the proper lighting, you can make an impressive looking set-up...guess I've given away my next project.

One of these days I plan on building my own solid wood cabinet. Maybe when the kids grow a little more and I figure out the size of their permanent home. I cant believe what they get for cabinet$ around here!

Actually, I thought of opening up the wall and framing it out for the tank and making an access under it for the filters and electrical and have the lights built in above........then my family threatened to call the police.....

yeah the wood cabinets are so expensive that is one reason why we made our own. I don't know why your family would call the police I would love it. lol

ohhhh my parents are crazy about it but they have their own "hobby" that I am an crazy about so it works for us. lol Besides the fact they live in Va ...lol. They do think the little ones are cute though they don't know about the big ones yet

Man, I would love to do carpentry for a living! But iac637 would kill me, bad enough she supports the habit. Carpentry is cool because it has math and science and art and stuff and usefullness and more stuff and cool stuff that costs alot of money but makes your finished work look mahvelous!
