it was a wild animal. It should only have been taken in if it was injured. It would have been just fine on it's own.

And there needs to be cursing (which I edited out) because...?

So it's justifiable to take wild animals as you please and without consideration to laws or decency to the animal? Is locking a thread that has expired it's validity that offensive? Perhaps it's OK for a poster to violate forum rules or disregard any advise he constantly asks for? Considering his (and "cuz's") attitude and capacity to care for a turtle, it's still OK?

tinyslider, glad you reconsidered. You missed some things prior to that thread, and I don't think anyone was being "mean."

On a lighter note, do you have any pics of the turts you photographed? I'd love to see some. (And I hope if you find turts crossing the road you bring them across and place them in the direction they were going away from traffic). :)

Here's the same res that I measured and posted last week, I can hardly beleive it, but he measured 1 3/4 inch, and a week lator is 2 inches. I new that they grew quick, but wow. The others have grown some, but not like this one.

"watch that growth", Is it normal that he? grew that fast? Look back at the pic when he was 1 1/4, I can't understand that he grew to 2'' in 7 days. This res is our most active we have, he is always chasing fish, "begging" always wanting to put something in his belly! I assume (and u shouldnt do that i heard) that is why he? is growing so fast. If you have a turt that eats more, and even takes food food from others, though we now feed them separately, is probally why he's grown so fast? Anyway guys/gals, I am looking forward to putting him to the measuring tape a week from the above pic and post the new pic. Maybe its a "growth-spirt" Kelly said, I guess we'll see! Oh yea, thanks for the positive replies on our pic's!

I was going by what you said--1 3/4 inch and a week later 2 inches. That's a quarter inch in one week, or 1 inch in a month, which is a lot. A growth spurt perhaps? What is he being fed?

Yes, 1/4 inch in a week! From what we have learned about the res, this isn't really normal, I think that as Kelly said its a growth spurt. Unless it had something to do with the steroids I accidently dropped in the tank,LOL.. Just kinding!!, Anyway, there isn't anyway that he could keep growing like that, in just 3 months, he would be around 5 inches. So, I don't expect to see him grow like that for long. As for what we feed our babys, we ordered some turtle food from the same place that we got our turts, I really don't have a name for it, but their description is a low fat, high protein food made for the res, and for treats, bloodworms and froze dried shrimp (inwhich they all love). Kelly works dayshift and I work 2nd shift, so she gets to more chances to go the "bigger" city next to us and she gets feeder guppies. We have a smaller tank that we put them in, and when we need to, we just put a few guppies in the big tank and our turts give us a lot of enjoyment seeing them chase down the guppies. It is kinda sad for the little guppies but it gives our turts (and us to watch) a natural way that our res would be in the wild. They seem to really like the guppies. Sometimes we give them very small pieces of carrots. I had asked before about aquatic plants that they would eat, you gave me some names, but im not fimillar with those names and don't know where to get them. We still haven't got a uvb light source yet, Kelly found some on the net that were the long florecent type that boasted uva/uvb, I just can't see them having enough "heat" from that type of bulb. Our res love the uva "spot light" that Kelly got, When we goto bed at night, we turn it off, (except for one florecent bulb-regular type not uv anything) and its funny because they seem to get "mad". But oh well, they sure like it in the morning when we turn on the big light and "the sun comes up!" lol, they all go staight to the dock to soak up some rays and do the superman pose. Anyway, as for uvb, we are still putting them out at least 3 times a week in the kiddie pool with plenty of real light. I have chicken wire over the pool but the past few days, we noticed 2 or 3 cats hanging around our carport, I would (we would) lose our mind if something snachted(sp?) one of our little guys!!! Well, I guess this was a long post but I think I covered pretty much what I had on my mind tonight. Im still looking forward to measuring the big guy in a few more days and posting his pic. This is a great forum guys/gals keep up the good work!
