can someone help me i burnt Quinns eyes for the third time! i feel so bad!!! i need help i have the repti zoo med 10. or somethin i have it like a foot away but it still burns his eyes can someone help me out?

What symptom is Quinn showing that you think his eyes are burning? Is your UVB bulb the tube or coil type? The fixture that your bulb is in, does it have a very reflective metallic or even white surface on the inside that could be reflecting even more light back at Quinn?

You would probably be better with the 5.0 bulb. Any chance you could take your 10.0 back and exchange it?

Good luck! I'm not an expert but those are things I would look at if it happened to me.

When i called the company, they reccomended using it 2 feet away and to have a screen - apparently alot of these bulbs are burning turtles eyes everywhere. Your not the only one, I myself have experienced trouble with the reptisun 10.0, its a great bulb - but recently its been causing so much damage. It's either because we set it to close, or the bulbs are just bad. There are a few people on here that use it a foot away and it doesnt do any damage to their turtles eyes. Weird...

Yeah, my guys looked exactly like that when the UVB bulb burned their eyes. It took them a couple of days to go back to normal. That bulb is set realy high, way more than 2 feet! How could these bulbs cause damage that high up?

Wow, if you have to have the bulb that far away so it doesn't hurt his eyes.....is it going to do any good for his shell? I know I was really suprised how strong my 5.0 was when I got it.

I seriously don't know! my mom rised the water level but still its far! What am i doing wrong? Did maybe some of the liners on the bulb get like wiped off or something? It really bugs me cuz its the 3rd time

I dont know, if its that far away..it shouldnt do ANY damage to the eyes. Everyone used to rave about the reptisun 10.0 being realy good, the more UVB the better? I guess not. Or maybe just a few of these bulbs are bad, someone on here had a problem with the same bulb, then got another one and nothing went wrong.

As of right now, if you can return it. Do it, and get a less stronger bulb. People seem to do well with the Reptisun 5.0, I havent seen complaints about that one.

Remember there are other brands, just try not to go past 5% UVB.

xsavingsaturdayx, how are your turtles' eyes doing?

Just a reminder - other things besides a bad light bulb can cause swollen turtle eyes. A few are dirty water, injury, too much cholorine in the water, too much conditioner in the water, vitamin A deficiency, and the big one, RI.

Just be sure little Quinn isn't showing symptoms of something else. I can't remember, have you tried giving him eye drops? Something else that's supposed to be soothing to a turtle's eyes is a little bit of cod liver oil on a q tip, gently touched to the turtle's eyelids.

Call the place you got that bulb from and complain. Tell them that others are also having problems with that particular bulb. Ask for an exchange for a lower UV rated bulb. You may still have to pay shipping though. Turn the UV light off. Your turtle will be fine without it for a few weeks until you can get a better one.
