I currently use a reptisun compact with the clamp lamp but I want to switch to the uvb tubes. Will it be okay to put a reptisun 5.0 in one of the esu slimline fixtures? The one I would be getting has 3% uvb, but I will be removing it and replace it with the reptisun. Is that ok?

If you're going to get a tube flourescent (which I think is a good idea) you should go ahead and get a 5.0 or higher. There have not been any of the problems with swollen turtle eyes with the tube flourescents like there have with the compacts. You can get a 5.0 or 10.0 and keep it closer to the turtle without ill effects.

I have no idea if the reptisun bulb would work in an esu fixture. I suppose if it would fit it would be ok.

Just make sure the bulbs are the same type (diameter). Otherwise the new bulb won't fit.

Thanks, guys! That's why I want to switch to the tubes, all these stories about swollen eyes are starting to worry me.

I just heard back from Zoo Med about their CF Reptisun bulbs. Apparantly they have a 2 to 3 week burn in period where they are stronger than normal and should be positioned up to 17" away. I started another thread on this forum and will post the instructions they sent me when I figure out how to do that.

Yea, I'm pretty pleased with their quick response. I've always preferred Zoo Med products and I still do. :)

I had a reptisun 5.0 in a slimline for months. It was all I could afford at first and it worked just fine. It was easy enough to attach to the wall right above the tank. FYI, it held an 18" bulb.
