I tried it in two clamp lamps and one household lamp. The clamp lamp works and is rated for enough watts....the UVA bulb is working fine in there just not the UVB.

Sounds like the bulb is bad. That sucks, you must be so dissappointed! Take it back, they should give you a new one.

I keep thinking I did something wrong since I never actually used one before but I've tried several times and I think it is broke. I must say, though, it is "heavier" and "bigger" than I expected....It says to dispose of the bulb properly...how do you do that?

I'd bring the bulb back (you'd probably need to do it anyway) with the receipt. Let them deal with the defective bulb.

I'm sure you did nothing wrong, they just screw in like a regular lightbulb. They say to dispose if it properly because the bulbs contain mercury, which isn't good to be putting into landfills. Most areas have a hazardous/electronic waste collection area, though it might take a bit of research to find out when and where that might be.

Compact bulbs must be screwed into the fixture by turning it at the base, not the glass.

What is the difference..doesn't it have the same effect?

The glass bulb is sealed at the base with some sort of plaster. You could loosen it up and break the seal by turning it at the bulb.

OK, thanks. I was turning it at the base but didn't honestly give it a thought about turning it at the glass and damaging it somehow. Thanks for the info.
