HURRAY! My new tank is FINALLY set up! :D Just a little side note, since these pictures were taken I have also added an EHEIM 2236 filter.

Image

Image I had to stand in my closet to get this shot because the tank is SO big!

Image Ahhh. Turtle Heaven!

Image The white chunks are cuttlebone. He can only eat it if it's small. :?

Image Soaking in some uumm....fake sun?

Image You can see a bit of his pyramiding here. :( Hopefully his new UVB light, lots of veggies, and cuttlebone will correct that soon! Poor baby, he had a rough start in life. He was bought in Mexico and then kept with another RES that was dead for a week before anyone noticed, never had his filter cleaned and only had a heat lamp and very little water. Luckily I convinced his former owner to let me have him! HURRAY! Now he lives in paradise!

Image Bottoms up! This is the view from UNDER the tank! Cool huh?

Image Come on, we all know you love the orange lipstick!

Image Striking a pose!

Some upgrades in the future include: A water heater for the winter, live plants, larger basking dock, more rocks and some driftwood as tree roots and a pirate ship! (By the way, is this too many pics at one time? )

Looks good! I was thinking it was bare but I see you're going to take care of that. Maybe a few fake plants for him to rest on?

Hoooneylynn, no I don't have a heater right now. It's on the way though. I talked with a local reptile store owner who also raises turtles and he says that it is warm enough were we live that I could turn off the water heater for the summer. Having the heater off in the summer also helps to slow water evaporation. My grandparent's pool, which is MUCH lager than the tank and is not indoors (our house is pretty warm) is already in the 70's. He will DEFINENETLY have a water heater for fall though!

As far as plants and more decorations goes he will be getting more soon. My birthday is this Sunday so I will soon be coming into a little extra cash ;) I was thinking about building him a basking platform out of PVC and a piece of tile. I want to figure out someway to make it float on top of the water so it changes with the water level. Does anyone have any ideas where to get a sunken pirate ship sort of thing? All the ones I have found have been VERY small. Anyways, hope you are all having a great day and thank you for all of the suggestions. :D

Hi orca_gurl12, you can ease up on the pellets www.redearslider.com/pellets.html

Anyway, he looks very happy! The water heater is recommended to stabilize water temperatures for indoor captive turtles. I'm not sure of your temp ranges, but its always good to have around and they are not too expensive.

Tile (ceramic) is pretty heavy and can make a great basking area. However, you'd want it to stay in a fixed spot because it will damage and possible break a glass tank if it is tipped over.
