What is turtle poo supposed to look like? Is it brown, green? Greeny's poo is pinkish... Is it the food I feed her? I donno... I'm just making sure it's ok.


ALSO: How long do I keep her light on for?

First of all, do you have both a UVA and UVB bulb?

Poo is supposed to be solid and dark, not realy runny or green. I'd say pink isnt normal. Hmm, but maybe someone more experienced can come in and explain a bit more.

What do you feed her?

the light i have is both a uvb and uva, very expensive. when do i turn it off though.

poo is the color of the food you feed her, if you fed her something pinkish her poo would be the same color, but if you fed her something green or brown and her poop is pink i would be concerned

i feed her pellets. theyre light colored so i guess her poo is ok. When do i turn off her light? lol

her light should be on 12 hours a day. You set the schedule. Though its best to mimic natural sunlight. How big is your enclosure? If its smaller than 55 gallons and you use a MVB (both UVA and UVB bulb) it could heat the enclosure to dangerous temps.

Though if you use a flourescent bulb, although it may say it gives off UVA and UVB. Sadly it doesnt provide enough heat (UVA) for green to want to bask properly. Be more specific on your setup so we can understand a bit more.

i try to shut mine off sometime around when it gets dark, but she only basks late at night for some reason.
she hasnt been basking much lately..so it looks like, since shes up there now, i'll be sleeping with a light on for a bit lol

I have my lights on a timer. Wake up 7am and turn off at 8pm. And with summer I was thinking about altering it to 8am and 9pm. It is just easier for me since I am so forgetful And the timers are cheap, plus you can get them at most stores (walmart, homedepot...).

A timer for the turtle tank was the best investment i have made! Now whenever i sleep late, or have to leave early or come home late, i don't screw up turtley's internal clock. It's also really improtant for when i go away for a couple of days, so he won't be in 24 hour light while i'm gone. About the poo, pinkish is fine if that's the basic color of the pellets you're giving him. Ever since my turtle has been eating his greens his poo has been mostly green.

Awesome, thanks guys. I'm gonna look into buying a timer cuz my work schedule's pretty messed up. And PINK POO!!! How cool is that. Pink's my favorite color. We were simply meant to be together.

Yea, I keep a lot of reptiles and I have them all on timers for their lighting. I don't know what I would do without those gadgets.

I agree that the poop can vary in color based on what you feed them.

i fed them egg yolk once (cooked) the herp vet at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo said that that was part of their diet at the zoo, not sure if this is OK though since I've only heard of egg white from other sources and only sparingly...any ways their poo was bright yellow it was funny
