Hi, it kind of sucks that this is my first post here, but I'm caught in between a rock and a hard place. I have a female RES and I rescued her from a relative about 4 years ago who was clearly neglecting her. I'm a college student with no income, and my parents really don't want to keep the turtle. They keep telling me that sooner or later, the turtle's got to go. I've been scouting some adoption sites and it seems like a very possible option is the local animal shelter. I'd feel a lot more comfortable with someone who has experience with turtles and has the love and financial support needed in caring for one. I guess the reason why I posted was to give it a shot and see if anyone's around San Francisco that could possibly adopt her. Thanks

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to extend the welcome under the circumstances you've described. If the absolute last option turns out to be your local animal shelter, make sure it's a "No Kill" one (won't have your turtle euthanized).

Have you tried any chapters of the California Turtle & Tortoise Club www.tortoise.org ?

You could also try Craigslist.com under the pets section and offer him up for adoption to a good home only (I think they're based in SF too, but they have a worlwide community). That's where I adopted mine.

Also, there's an adoption page on TurtleForum.com where you can post your ad too.
