I"M BAAAAAACK!

"Got any pellets up there?"
"Maybe some crickets?"
"Some shrimp?"

Image

Starchick sent me this quote awhile back:
"Looking for peace is like looking for a turtle with a mustache: You won't be able to find it. But when your heart is ready, peace will come looking for you." Ajahn Chah

Pretty cool, huh?
Thanks, Starchick.

Anyhow, here's little Gomie "workin' it" on the catwalk. You go girl!

Image

This morning I put out a "veggie lovers" spread for them. Here's Gomie doing her best imitation of Homer Simpson: "Ahhhhh, Green Peppers, ALGLLGGGGLLLGLGL"

Image

She has pretty big claws for a female. That's B.D.'s claws in the lower right.

Image

This pic is a perfect example of why I'm such a softie when it comes to my Gomie....All the time she was in the isolation tank I didn't give her carrots (I knew she would not touch them), yet now she acts like it's the first time she ever saw one! She's such a curious little turtle!

Image

She really only nibbles at them, that's Beaker sneaking up from below to grab a chunk, carrots are one of her favorites....

Image

Once they have wiped everything out (less than five minutes), it's playtime. Both beaker and Big Daddy pretty much ignore Gomie, she makes her own fun. So far she's managed to pull most of the rocks out of the little pot without knocking it over BUT moving the pot itself about 8" from left to right (redecorating I guess). I put the new 6" PVC pipe in, but I haven't had time to put plants on it just yet.

Image

When I got home from work today, I figured I'd give them some pellets. Of course, Gomie had to "inspect" them, to make sure they were soft enough for Beaker and B.D.:

Image

"Hmmmm, these pellets are still a bit crunchy. Maybe you should leave me alone with them a few minutes more....."

Image

Uh Oh, this isn't going to end well......"Ha, Ha" says Gomie, "get your own!"

Image

"Move over, squirt" says Beaker.....six months ago they were both the same size!

Image

Beaker grabs hold of the side of the container and tries to pull it into the tank!

Image

"Mr. Big Head! Beaker's trying to steal MY (?) pellets!

Image

The always kind and benevolent (ahem) Big Head spreads pellets far and wide (overfeeding), and once again all is well.......

Image

When feeding time ends, Big Daddy gets his back scratch. I swear every time after he eats he climbs onto the resting ramp and looks up at me, waiting for his "back scratch'! The Big Head must comply......

Image

"Ahhhh......a little to the left....that's the ticket!"

Image

I'll end with a shot of the new filter.....it looks like something Batman might use if he had turtles in the Batcave......

Boy that looks like fun. Everything looks great too.. but no hand feeding?

I can't get away with a back scratch, but chin rubs are popular!

They are so cute! Gomie is such a funny little turtle. BD and Beaker are more predictable, and BD liking his back scratched is freakin' adorable. Beaker trying to bite you is terrible cute too. I know how the overfeeding goes. I try to get them seperated, but occasionally Spike decides she wants Sparky's instead of hers, and he doesn't seem to understand that he could go eat hers. She gets a double helping, and then I have to pull her out to feed the little guy!

Actually I'm trying to avoid hand feeding at this point. Mostly because they will focus on my fingers while the pellets float right past their nose, and Beaker is getting a little too aggressive, grabbing the tip of my fingers instead of the pellet....

Gomie is just the best turtle ever! I love them all but I feel particularly attached to her. I'm so happy she's back to her old self.....

The back scratching started by accident...I was fixing the airline connector next to the resting ramp and Big Daddy just worked his way under my fingers and started dancing! Since then, it's an everyday ritual.

I'm going to be posting some pics on her shell...It's always been uneven on the carapace (all bumpy and dented) and now I'm noticing a bit of a "separation" for lack of a better word, on the plasteron. Right now I'm just marking it up as a growth spurt, but it may be something else altogether....You can sort of see it in pic #3, the line in the center of the plasteron is pretty wide......

You really have a turtle paradise there! I still think your setup is amazing, the basking areas with the stones glued on look great! Its always a beautiful thing when turtles can co-exist the way yours do.

Thanks! I hope they will continue to get along, but I know that they are going to run out of room sooner than later, which means either I invest in a much bigger tank, or separation......
