I've read that it's decent. It should be replaced about every 6 mos. because the UVB output diminishes with use over time. (Taking your turtle outside periodically in the sun when it's nice out is good as well.)

The best way to tell how good a UVB bulb is doing is to measure it with a UVB light meter (they're expensive unfortunately). You need to measure it at different distances to see where the levels drop off at, and then take measurements for several months to see how long the effectiveness of the bulb lasts for. A bulb will continue to give off visible light long after the UV light has faded away.

There are people/labs who have done these studies already on the internet that you can search for. I think the ZooMed Reptisun's were some of the better ones but they started to cause eye irritations so something went wrong with their design. I believe SpotsMama had sent a bunch out to an independant tester a few months ago to see what was going on with them. It will be interesting to see what the results are.

Actually it's a different kind of twirly light bulb thing,it's in a red package with a turtle on it.I don't know the name but it was 3~5% UVB and I don't remember how much UVA but their was a lot more UVA.

3% is okay, but 5% is better IMO. If you are going to use a bulb that puts out 3% UVB, make sure it is no farther than 6 inches away from the basking area and be sure to supplement with natural sun atleast 2 - 3 hours a week, you dont have to stand in the sun for 2 - 3 hours straight, take your turtle out for 30 minutes one day, then another 30 the other etc, just make sure that it is warm out and not cold, and that there is no cool breezes as this will cause pneumonia.

If you use a 5% bulb you can set it up farther away (up to 12 inches) and your turtle will receive more adequate UVB.

Just be sure to change the bulbs every 6 months. They start to lose UVB after a few months...

The percentage of UVA emitted by those bulbs is greater than the percentage of UVB rays. Was the bulb made by ESU? I've used them, but they don't have the reputation that Reptisun or even Repti-Glo has. A 5% UVB bulb is preferable to one that emits 3%. The bulb should be 6-8 inches from the basking turtle.
