Re: Background for Tank

... to help hold but the baby oil will make the plastic of the laminate adhere a bit to the glass. You can buy a commercially available product called SeaView but the baby oil works just as well. Glycerine also works very well

Re: SeaView background mounting solution

I've used it before. I had to supplement the adhesion with packaging tape on the edges. Maybe it would work better for small tanks, but it didn't work especially well for my 6' tank.

Re: SeaView background mounting solution

Yeah the seaview doesn't adhere to the tank... it's taped on around the edges with the baby oil between the background and the glass. If it doesn't come off by itself over time it should be very easy to remove.

Re: SeaView background mounting solution

Hmmm... I think I'll start by taping the background to the tank and then maybe trying the SeaView. I didn't pay much for either. Is it easy to get the SeaView and background off if it turns out badly? Those backgrounds look very sturdy, but not too exciting. More than ...

Re: SeaView background mounting solution

It's not fantastic. I used it and got rid of it. The seaview special sauce (baby oil) goes on the outside back of the glass. It helps the background adhere to the glass and appear enhanced or brighter from the front side. What it really does is make ...

Re: SeaView background mounting solution

Looks like it has an unscientific score of 33% on RES.com: search.php?keywords=SeaView

It goes on the outside, but will appear enhanced when stuck to the surface.

SeaView background mounting solution

Has anyone used this before? It's gotten very mixed reviews on petco.com.

Also, do you attach the background to the inside or outside of the tank?

Re: POST YOUR BASKING AREA PICTURES HERE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

... how it looks. Sammy never has any interest in eating it. The one issue I have had is keeping a background well secured on the tank. I used that seaview stuff and it doesnt work for crap. One of these days when I do a big cleaning I will drain the tank down all the way and try to re-do it.

Re: Moe's new 75G home - build thread.

... spare bedroom and into the back of the family room. In doing so, I changed the background on the tank to black. I had a graphic background from seaview and applied with their special seaview sauce. It didn't stick that good and had lots of air bubbles. I went back to a watercolors background. ...

Re: Moe's new 75G home - build thread.

... to pull it off. I WAS planning on using watercolors for this tank. The product only comes in solid blue or solid black. No prints. I tried the seaview background adhesive per Ashley's good experience with the product. I ordered a background from seaview also. I tried to pick something natural ...

Re: SeaView

It works the same way.
I still had to use a bit of tape to secure the edges, but the rest sticks to the tank just fine.

Re: SeaView

It also makes the background "seal" to the aquarium, right? I was thinking about trying this stuff myself. I've used the watercolors background that you put on with soapy water, squeegee out the air and it's the next best thing to paint. I'm hoping the sea view is similar.
