Habitat - Indoor :: My Juwel Rio 180 (55g) Redecorated (with above tank basking)

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Post Posted: Mon Jul 30, 2007 11:37 am   My Juwel Rio 180 (55g) Redecorated (with above tank basking)

I decided to redecorate my 55g tank adding sand as a substrate and some new plants. I also removed the juwel inside filter and replaced it with an eheim external filter. I added plants, rocks and some cork bark to the basking area to make it a little more natural as well.

I love the sand, I think it gives the tank a much more realistic look :D

Wow that looks so clear! My only question is it looks like the tank hangs off the stand on one side, I'd be afraid that would cause too much strain on that end of the tank? Maybe it'd be a good idea to center it more on the stand or brace that end with something else.

I'm not sure what you mean, where are you seeing it hanging off the stand? When I look at it, it seems perfectly even all around with the stand.

I think it's cause it's a pedestal stand. In the lower left corner of the picture #6 where you show the whole thing together it looks like the tank is just hanging over the edge. But it looks to me like there is a table under it but the support for the table is centered underneath.

Very cool looking setup! :)

Another beautiful tank, Breigh. Does Stelo dig in the sand? Does it blow around?

Yea, I love the Western Painteds. The Southern's are cool too with the stripe down their back. Two of my other favorites are the Red Bellied Sideneck the Red Bellied Slider. I've also got my eyes on the 3 Striped Mud turtle. Plus I'm on a waiting list for a Northern Chesapeake Diamond Back turtle which should be hatching in a couple of weeks! :D

He has done some digging already and seems to be having fun :) The sand doesn't blow around as it's river sand and is a bit heavier than other finer types like play sand or reptile sand.
