I've done the same sometimes, Jenero. This past summer the lights were on for about 13 hours on average. Now I'm slowly moving the times on the timers back as the days get shorter, probably to around 11 hours.
My RES is in the living room and lights are usually on late as well. I cover the tank when the lights go out (leaving a small portion near the wall partially uncovered for air to circulate) so my RES can sleep and people can use the room.
