Didn't you just post that you had fish that died? I'm guessing that either your water quality became bad or the fish brought something home ...

I'm very sorry for your loss ...

sorry for your loss. turtles eat rotting fish and poo in the wild all the time. so it is unlikely a sick fish infected your turtle.

I just looked at a pic of your setup. the walmart mini heater is not sufficient for a 10 gallon tank. the flower pot is not a good basking spot. sorry, but I think your turtle died from a cold and malnutrition.

sorry to hear such bad news man, i can relate. I honestly dont think it was the fish cuz you wouldve been able to see signs of illness/distress on your turtle. what kind of setup do you have, and what kind of fish do you have in this tank of yours?

Right now I have a 20 gal. Tank . With a basking area. The water is also around 78-80.

I don't own a cam, so can not show it.

Here is the thing. I had a old fish from Pet's Mart that was still alive, but the knew fish I got from no-name shop were dead.

What makes be feel bad is that I had two other turts, and I was told bad information about keeping them. And I keep them of over 17 years. Now they I am doing things right my friend dies with in a 5 weeks.

Oh no! That's awful! It's funny how irony works sometimes. RES are pretty hardy, but it's surprising that 17 didn't have any after effects.

Was he a hatchling? They're extra fragile and it's very common for them to die with little reason.

THe one that died after 17 years, I think she needed to lay eggs, and before I got here I never knew that girls with out boys may have to lay eggs.

But this one that died just after 3 years. I was making sure that this one's life was better. Than all out of the blue he stops moving. That is why it is SO SO SO hard for me. I was for once being a good parent. Doing everything the right way, than this happens, it so not fair for Mr. T.

Don't beat yourself up! It happens. It is hard for us to know how a turtle was treated before we get them & illness/malnutrition issues take a long time to show up in turtles because their metabolism is so slow. It has happened to all of us at one time or another! We just have to know that we did the best we could to give the turt a good quality of life. :)

I hope you will get another turtle soon and try again! You sound very caring. :)

What a shame sorry. My large female (Bella) I had her 8 years now and she is part of the family I don't even want to think about if anything happens to her. She was just out of the shell when I got her now she is over 11 inches. Good luck with the next
