Recently after changeing the water in my red eared sliders 75 gallon tank the water has become cloudy. I have a Marineland Magnum 350 Canister Filter which I have been using for about 4 months now with no problems. The water was fine for a day then when I went to feed my turtle yesterday the water was so cloudly that I could bearly see him in the tank. I changed half the water out yesterday and that seemed to help but now the tank is back to its cloudly self agian today. The filter was cleaned inside and out, nothing caught in it or anything like that. What could be causeing this issue? Im very frustrtated with this, do I need to buy a new filter? is there soemthing I could get for the tank to clean the water? Or do i just as other sites have said should I just wait it out. Ive checked my turtle over and hes fine. Im very frustrated by this cause I have never had this problem before.

You must have changed too much water. Try not doing such a drastic water change, especially with newer tanks. Also, entirely cleaning the filter can do the same as you are killing off a lot good bacteria. Try to clean small amounts, but often ..that should do the trick.

Its no real problem, jsut let the tank cycle. never change half the water supply, just change like 20%-30%, its better for the turtle/s.

No need to buy a new filter, but have you added dechlorinator to the water?
Thanks,
Richard

@Polo I always remove the same amount of water not all and refill. Then smaller amounts between large water changes.

@Snowboi Your right the tank is looking better today, think it just needs some time to cycle through. I dont use dechlorinator while change waters. When i orignally got the turtle I did some research and was told it was not needed.

Thank you both for your advice.

Edit:Fliter crapped out on me this atfternoon, bought a new one.

So are you guys saying you never change the water entirely?! I always have for my 6 month old, but just now I did some kinda intuitive halfsy, because her mustard greens really tweaked the water color, and she seemed morose. I didn't do a full tank change because I need more water conditioner, and I'm pressed for time at this second. I have two filters going, and it's looking better, and she's more active/less morose.

I usually do a full tank change (10 gallons) every weekend.

Thoughts?

I do full changes but that's because I preserve the bio media. Some people prefer more frequent changes, and have to only change smaller amounts.

It can vary, but this usually takes place during the first couple of weeks. Since it's not harmful to RES, I usually don't monitor this type of thing.

That filter probably isn't doing a whole lot. You don't want your water dirty and stinky. I would recommend you change the tanks water frequently until you can upgrade.

The 406 has a rubber gasket that goes into the motor head.

You can get a new one for less than $10. In the mean time, take it off. Make sure it isn't damaged somewhere. Clean out the area of the Moter head where it rests. Then put it back and try again.
