Habitat - Indoor :: would it be practical to combine two tanks???

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

the idea is great when it all comes together, i had my 55 gal tank and put a 10 gal tank inside, fit it nicely with about half inch of space on the width and 10 gal tanks are only a foot long so didn't take up too much of the length. first i had the 10 gal tank as my water with the 55 gal being the land. to do so I brought the ground level almost up to the height of the 10 gal with styrofoam ( to cut down on weight) then covered that over with riverbed sand. with fake plants. ( fake plants a bad idea, they try'd to eat mine) overall was a great setup. didn't like the small water area so switched 55 gal to be water and 10 gal was my land area. when the setup is complete its amazing. But you have to have time to dedicate to cleaning the water alot, due to sand getting on them when they wet and just fogging up the water. anyone want more info just contact me

Welcome. If you have a RES, it was good you changed the proportion of land to water. They are aquatic and need swimming space with an area to bask on. A basking area that allow for swimming space underneath it would be even better space-wise, and would make cleaning easier.

I don't think a 55 gallon should support the weight of a 10 gallon, even if you have reduced the weight. Some people have constructed above tank basking areas and you can also silicone a large piece of glass in there if you want to have a built in separation solution.

Do you have pictures of how the setup looks?

yeah the 55 gal supported the wieght of the ten gallon, but i have the bottom of my 55 gal, caulked as well it isn't on a stand it is on my dresser so the entire bottom of the tank is solidally supported
i think i have pics on my msn, feel free to add and ask for a peek
