Boiling water evaporates pure water and condences heavy metals The longer you boil the more they condence.I just bring it to a point right before it reaches boiling point. Even if it boils your better off using it than water from a hot water heater. The reason being lead. Led solder wasn't banned till 91 and hot water going through your pipes picks it up.That's why you shouldn't use it to cook with. You should also let your cold water run for a while before using it especially if it has not been used for more than 6 hrs.My house was built in 76 so I know for a fact lead solder was used.Even new plumbing parts marked as lead free can have as much as 8% lead in them. I had to do a bit of reading to find all this out.I also don't use hot tap water because of how long it might have been sitting in the water heater.Yuck!
