Habitat - Indoor :: turtle kiddie pool???

Ok I saw this on a website and was just wondering could you possibly do this? I would imagine you would have to have a somewhat deep kiddie pool if you want them to have plants they could hide in and such

I have a kiddie pool on my front porch. It has a couple of logs that they can crawl on to bask, and a large potted plant next to it for partial shade. They love going outside. I usually take a book out when I have the time and just sit and read. Sometimes I water the plants or other things. It has enough water in it that they can flip themselves over and not enough that they can escape. I wouldn't use it permanently though. I can't imagine having a set up like that in the pictures in my house. IMO it is kinda ugly and unattractive. To each his own though.

I think it would depend on the size of the turtle/s. I had a painted hatchling in a kiddie pool last summer and the water was deep enough for him to hide under the water hyancinth.

I have a couple of small logs floating in there for basking, and like I mentioned it is not real deep, but enough to flip over if needed. They can stand on the bottom and barely get their noses out of the water. I'll take some pictures this weekend and get them posted...if we have nice weather!

I just can't imagine a kiddie pool as a permanent habitat. I mean isn't the habitat supposed to be at least 18 inches to deter predators from attacking, unless it has an overhead barrier in my thought. You would have to be a real cheapskate to have that as a habitat.

Is all of that in response to the original post, or to my comments on the kiddie pool? Cause the kiddie pool is not my regular set up. They go out on nice days when the temp is above 70 and the water has had a chance to warm.

Yeah that was why I posted it up here and wondered. I just didn't see how it could be deep enough for a full grown turtle. For a baby I could see it but not for the big guys.

We have a kiddie pool for our turt for nice days also - it's a change of scenery and she seems to enjoy swimming about in the larger area. Plus she can get some real sunshine and do her own thing.

The setup pictured is indoors, so predators wouldn't be an issue.

Ok, so I slacked and didn't post the pictures the weekend I said I would...even though I took the pics. So here is a link of the kiddie pool that I have. There is no filter so I have to clean it regularly. The turts don't go out until it has warmed up, and I stay out with them. As much as I would like to trust them, I don't.
