Would sand be okay to use with flourite for plants?

And when you vacuum does the sand do well or does it come with the water?

Not sure about mixing them but then again I don't even know whate flourite is? Some sand comes up when you vac but hey sands cheap. ;-)

Instead of mixing, you're probably better making a sand cap on top, possibly mixed underneath.

I use pool filter sand. It's a rather coarse grain. You can wave the siphon over the top and get the gunk on top of the sand without getting much sand. You will still lose some.

I think I'm going to try out the river rocks, since I did spend two hours picking them out from the bunch so that they couldn't eat them. lol -

So far so good, They made salad out of the plants quickly, but now they're just leaving them alone, which left them with some ugly trims, like if they had a drunk barber.

The river rocks haven't caused too much problems, yet. I am able to easily vacuum since they mostly fit in the tub and so far so good. Water level are good along with the chemicals (test kit) I use confirms.

That's great. I like tanks with substrate.

Funny thing is, the substrate was for the plants, plants which have been mostly 90% eaten up and are pretty much gone. So was the $150 fluval light lol- Oh well they at least got their salad.

Time to buy silk plants
