Does anybody know about how coming in contact with turtle feces in the filter through the cleaning process can effect the owner? Are there diseases that one could pick up through this process other then samonella?

I haven't heard of anything, but then again, I always wash my hands when I am done. Hasn't been a concern of mine.

There may not be any salmonella there at all. As with any forms of waste, there are bacteria and the possibilities of parasites.

That waste is in the tank water as well, just not in the same concentration. Keeping everything clean goes pretty far...
