Habitat - Indoor :: Strong Filter, Bubbling Brook

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I just installed a filter on my setup. When I turn it on, it does its job but then I notice that it also creates a "stream" or bubbling brook effect that creates a current that my little turtle has to swim through to get to other areas of his home.

I dont know the effects of this but it seems that he was used to the still water more. Plus the bubbles distract him somewhat at most times. I dont know, he chases after some of them actually.

It sounds as if it's good exercise for him. As long as it is not so overpowering to him, it should be okay. If it is too strong and sends him tumbling back I'd do something about changing the flow (usually there is a high/low adjustment on most filters).

Nah, nothing like that. But as I said on the other thread... he did get sucked in by the pump... I might change the thing into a small corner filter... might not be as powerful as the one I have installed right now, but at least I know the wont get sucked in again. :? I feel really bad for what happened.

I'll keep observing him. Right now he's just basking... I think he's trying to get rid of the water that he took in while he was stuck.

Definitely keep a cover on the intake, but a strong current from the output should not be a problem. When I first got Al, I had a teeny duetto filter, and it put out a strong current. He would shoot across the tank whenever he hit the current, it was hilarious and good exercise.

Remembering how tiny he was gives me bittersweet memories.
