im not sure if i should buy the reptisun compact bulb 5.0 or 10.0

i will be positioning this bulb at approximately 6 inches from the basking area. i am not able to increase the distance. at this distance should i use a 5.0 or 10.0 uvb bulb?

and does this bulb provide heat? im hoping not

Per Marisa, you can put the 5.0 as close as 6" to 8" to the turtle. The people on here that use them are saying 12" distance for the 10.0.

Are you talking about a flourescent bulb? I believe the Reptisun Compacts are flourescent - check the box to be sure. If so, then the flourescents do not produce significant heat.

im not sure if they are flourescent im hoping they are cuz i got a 60 watt bulb for basking. okay then im going to buy the 5.0

It should say somewhere on the package that it's a flourescent.

I just goggled it (reptisun 5.0 compact bulb) and it came back Reptisun 5.0 compact FLOURESCENT bulb - so yes, it's flourescent. Cool bulb, not hot.

I have the 10.0 it does not provide heat. You should be fine. Also, if you are purchasing it from a pet store see if they will price match. I bought mine at Petco for $50 and BigAls has them for $23!!!!!

To bad i lost my receipt or i would have done the same thing mkoby
