Urgent Care :: My Female RES has what appear to be scabs

Mobatt555, when my painted's eyelids got bit, I used a q-tip to apply a little Neosporin to the area, being very careful not to get it in the eye (it can be done with a little practice ). I'm a little surprised you never caught the male actually biting her.

Once or twice I saw him grab the back of her neck. But there never appeared to be any damage. The vet said it could be considered flirting if hes not leaving marks. So I turned a little bit of a blind eye to it. The other problem is my tank water is green, so its hard to see the back of the tank (less then a week after a water change it turns green). By Sunday the situation will be rectified.

Is the tank in bright light? If so, it would be good to move it. Try also doing partial water changes.

The dock I built is a wood box, so barely any light from the heat lamp escapes on to the water. Otherwise there is only a normal florescent light that is shining through 1/2 of acrylic on the top of the tank.

Here is a pitcure of here eye that he attacked. I dont see the gaps like I did two days ago, so I am wondering if I was just so worried about her wounds I over emphizied anything else I saw.

Also to make me even more worried is her fat on her hind legs is stiff and hard like somethings in there. Should I go for x-rays to see if she is retaining eggs? I dont have anything close to a nesting spot in my home.

Is the stiff area in front or behind her hind legs?

I recently posted pictures of my 11" female RES in the photo gallery section ("fat bags around Sheba's legs") that show the normal sag around the hind legs for a larger female turt. In there I did mention that if you push on the fat gently (push the fat bags into the turtle's body to feel inside) you will be able to feel eggs if there are eggs there. If the fat bag skin goes all the way in without any resistance, there are no eggs.

I think the best way to show is with pictures. The circle areas are where it is very stiff.

I was not bale to get her to relax enough to try and poke it in.

Thats why I asked if it was the front or back of the hind legs... its normal

If you're checking for eggs, you should be feeling the area in front of the hind legs toward the stomach (I can't tell from what you said if you were doing that). The circled areas don't have anything to do with eggs. She looks like she has a pretty fat rump to me.
