I made this yesterday with $5 worth of PVC fittings. It's all 1/2 inch and can be made in 10 minutes.

All I need to do now is zip-tie a cutout of a vinyl floormat to it and it's done!

It's about 8 x 6 and sits maybe 6" deep. You can always make that shorther though.

Once it's finished my turtle is moving into that big container!

SebastianMillhouse, can you find pvc pipes in home depot or any hardware store? I was looking into getting a new and bigger zoo med dock, but now i see how cheap and easy it is to make one out of PVC :D .

I got all this at Lowes. Really it doesn't make sense to buy a dock if you can think of something creative that will be even sturdier than a store bought one.

And a tip if you make one- You may or may not have to glue it. Mine won't be, there's really no need to. But always wait a few days for all the chemicals to cure before using it. And to get the labeling off the pipe, use acetone (nail polish remover) and it will come right off. Again though, be sure to wait a day or two to use it in the tank.

I assure you though that using PVC is safe. People drink through it everyday.

That's a great idea.. the only problem I see is that you'd have to make it hang further down the bigger your turtle gets so that it can't escape. 6" for a tiny turtle is a lot but for a 4" turtle.. not so much so :)

Instead of PVC prime and glue (which really isn't glue, it virtually melts the connections together) you could try a dab of aquarium silicone (also at Lowes and much cheaper than the pet stores). This way you could pull it apart....also you may have to drill some holes in the lower part so it will fill with water and be less buoyant.

Nice idea---will it have an attached ramp to help the turtle climb on it?
