Any time there's a significant change in behavior you should take note. Sleepiness (or lethargy) is a common symptom of several illnesses. How is his appetite? Are his eyes swollen or irritated? Any yawning or breathing with his mouth open? Is he pooping normally?

It's impossible to say without more symptoms what's going on, if anything. Some common health problems are:

1. Internal parasites
2. Respiratory infection
3. Impaction caused by eating gravel
4. Some other infection

When turtles are ill, it seems to me that their chances of survival are better when they get treatment from a vet early on. I tend to recommend erring on the side of caution - in other words, go see a vet as soon as you are pretty sure something's wrong even if you don't know exactly what it is.

So....my advice would be to take him to a vet. If you can get it, take a stool sample so the vet can check for parasites (if he/she thinks that's necessary).

Good luck. Please let us know how it goes.

Yeah it doesnt sound too good. Your turtle sounds sick, or he's beggining to get sick. Is he still eating? Turn up the water temp to 82 degrees and turn up the basking temperatures by two degrees (assuming its in the 88 - 95 degree range, you should check it with a thermometer, if its lower or higher you should probably fix it) you dont want to play around with his life, if you wait longer, you can lose him, if you take action now, you can probably save him.

Good luck.

Is the turtle in a room with AC? If so, is she exposed to any cool breezes from it? Does the water temp fluctuate a lot?

From what you say, your turtle is still eating, and that's good. I'd up the water temp to 80-82F, and increase the basking area temp to 90-91F. If AC is being used in the room, I'd move her elsewhere. If she doesn't respond to the increased warmth, it would be good to have here seen by a herp vet.

How much more is your turtle sleeping? Does she still have an appetite/beg? You can raise the temps a bit to see if that help.
