i just got an xp2 for my 55 gallon tank that will be filled 3/4 full.

it didnt come with biological media (stars or rings?? )

i dont really get it. which should i use???

I'm using Seachem Matrix in my new FX5.......got them at Petsmart.

You can use either, or a combo. They'll both be doing the same thing :)

No, you never change bio-media. It works by providing a large amount of surface area for beneficial bacteria to colonize, once you have a nice poulation going you want to hang on to them! All you do is rinse them with tank water (never tap water) and put them back. Also, be sure to keep them wet during filter maintenance, drying out will kill the bacteria.
