General Care Discussion :: Going away next weekend

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Mon Oct 15, 2007 12:31 am   Going away next weekend

I just adopted a 4" RES today and he seems to be settling in OK. The problem is that I will be out of town from Thursday night to Sunday night next week. Will it be ok to leave him unattended for that period of time? I don't have any friends who I would trust to look after him while I'm gone.

He should be ok. My turtle is 3 inches and sometimes he goes for 3, 4 days without meals.

Just feed leave him a couple of water plants in for him to munch on if hes hungry.

I assume you've got all the equipment for a good setup - adequate sized tank, filter, lights, water heater. You can feed him real well before you leave, put the lights on a timer, and he should be fine for that short a time. You might also put a few minnows in the tank so that if he gets hungry he can have fresh food! If you don't already have a timer, you can get one at very little cost from a place like Lowes or Home Depot.

Add a few feeder fish, toss in some pond plants, put lights on a timer, and enjoy your long weekend!
