my turtle Ishka is over a year old and whenever we take her out to clean the tank or take her so she can walk around she hisses and snaps at us.
why do they snap and hiss? i haven't been mean to her haven't droped her haven't ignored her i talked to her all the time and fooled around with her when she was in the tank we taugh her to take food out of our hands and i actually taugh her to beg which is really cute.
We're kind to her we have a nice little set up for he so why is she hating on us?

Off the top of my head, (meaning I have no proof for this ...just my random thoughts ;)) it could be that you are taking her out of the comfort of her tank which she likes. Maybe she just doean't appreciate leaving her tank. I know all tutles have their own personalities just like people. Personally, I'm a home-body and would rather be here at home than any where else. Maybe she's the same, who knows....

May be adjusting, not all turtles will like their owner. You maybe just happen to have a little tantrum turtle. Just like kids, they have different personalities and characteristics.
Maybe she doesn't like to be cuddled or held (which most don't) Do you take her out of her tank often? It causes stress and stress causes agressive behavior.

Again, just an opinion here.. perhaps its just that she feels threatened?? I mean you are HUGE and I thought in another discussion regarding communication and such that the conclusion is that they make those noises to warn off predators.. etc. Just think of what you'd do if some giant picked you up off the ground or snatched you out of your house what all you'd do.. :)

Just a thought .. I kind of expect that behavior they are wild animals regardless of our having them in our home.. they are never domesticated. Just natural instict to try to stay alive.. and they have no clue we're trying to help them.

When you said she's out walking around, I assume that means she's not in water? Both my girls freak out when they're not in water because they're vulnerable on land.

when we take her out of the tank i try to give her some water so she can swim and be comfortable when i take her out into the yard she seems to enjoy the grass and stuff
but when she stays in the tank she'll show off for us and play with the rocks we put in there i'll twirl my finger around in the water she'll come up to me and will sometimes let me pet her and whne i had my cat if i brough her into the house and was holding her the turtle would get jealous maybe she has split personalities or something
