Feeding and Nutrition :: make sure to check your feeder fish!!

so i bought a bunch of feeder fish a few weeks ago, and a 2 of them started to look sickly to me, so i separated them from the others.

well sure enough, within a few days both of them were dead! one was just really pale and the other one had a visible parasite (atleast i think it was a parasite)



so make sure to wait a little bit after buying them to moniter them!

Ekkkg! It looks awful. You did the right thing. I have had trouble with several mollies I bought from petsmart. I think they have been diseased from the breeder. I have had to take all of them from that store out - even euthanized a few that didnt pass on. Thats the risk of keeping fish with our little turts. We are potentially introducing some ickies to the tank. A quarantine tank is always a good idea, but I have to admit I havent had one. So far everyone (the fish from other sources) seems fine now - but since my guy will eat the weak and or dead fish - I take them out at first signs of problems and either treat them or euthanize. He wont bother them if they are healthy (so far anyway) but if they are showing signs of weakness he will try to get them.

How do you unthinize a fish?! All 3 of mine died in 3 days and all of them looked healthy and bright orange.

Nearly all the feeders I buy die overnight which is why I don't give them any more. They have defects like the one in your picture or bloody gills, or come from a foul tank.

All of the ones in the tank I got them 3 from looked great.

my feeders lasts forever. there are several ways to euthanize a fish. theres a chemical you put in the water and it kills them in a short period of time and another way is to put them in ice cold water and they slow down and eventually die.

Good post, I just started keeping feeders for my Oscar fish and RES'. After feeding my Oscar Fish a couple feeders, it developed HITH Disease, Hole in the Head Disease, GOOGLE IT with OSCAR FISH and youll see what it is, its HORRIBLE.............

I froze one of mine and threw her away. I hated to do it, but she could have made everyone else sick. If they are diseased and you flush them it could just potentially spread the problem.
