Habitat - Indoor :: If you had to choose.

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

As of right now, I am very limited to the material I have for my setup. I'm in the process of getting a nice big heat lamp for my little buddies as an upgrade from what I have now.

If you had to choose between these two products, which one do you think would be more suitable and effective for my turtles? I have both of them, but I only have one lamp to put it in.

This is 75 watts without UVB

This one is 26 watts with 5.0 UVB

Your turtle really needs both of them---the UVB light to metabolize vit D3 and the heat light to warm the basking area. Can you get a clamp lamp for one of them? The Turtle Tuff bulb has a backing and wouldn't even need a reflector.

Btw, the Turtle Tuff bulb is quite pricy. Unless you have an issue with your turtle splashing on the bulb, when you have to replace it you could use a regular halogen bulb or even an incandescent light bulb for heat, which would save you some money.

I suppose if the weather is still warm enough where you are, you could take him outside regularly for UVB rays and use the heat light so he'll get out of the water and bask. But if you can't do this on a regular basis, getting a clamp lamp for one of the lights and using both of them would be best.

I would get both... I bought a weather resistant flood light from Home Depot and a clamp lamp for under $10, I think it was around $7. The clamp lamps at Home Depot are cheap too, they are only like $2 lol.

OK, I have both up and on. The only problem is that the UVB lamp is about one to two feet away from the cage because of the placement issues. Is that too far away or is it OK?

I would use both, because you need one for basking and the other one to get UVA & UVB Sunlight.I've been wanting to get a UVA?UVB Light, but I've heard they're really expensive,so if it isn't personal, how much was te bulb?(Oh,and by the way I use that ZooMed Turtle Turf Bulb, and it works really good for basking, but doesn't have UV in it.Like I said, how much was the UV one,if it's not personal?

Yeah,it would help if you had pictures,to see if you need to fix it,because if you have the placement wrong, they could get wrong amount of UV Light & Basking Light.

The one that I bought was $8.00 at PetSmart. They had a stronger one for $18.00.

:D

And I will definitely post some pictures I just finished cleaning the tank. I'll jump on that right now.

My setup. (I know the tank is small, I just talked to someone who'd be willing to give me a 55 gallon and I'm picking it up tomorrow.)

That's the best I can do right now. I'm getting a light clip tomorrow, but as of now - that will just have to do, I guess.

Daniel - My setup is displayed in the pictures above.

It should be 12 inches I believe...when you can try to move it closer

If I were you I'd cover the tank with egg crate or something similar...your turtle could get out and injure itself
