General Care Discussion :: They are not eating

Hi everyone. I am the one that asked about my 2 new baby turtles.

I went to the pet store and they loved their tank. They were swimming and looked so happy.

They have not eaten at all since I got them on Sunday. I am offering the pellets. The pet store even said Tuna might be good to put in there so they smell it and want to eat.

But no luck!! I am getting worried. Any advice.....

Also today when I got home from work they were just sitting on top of the floating thing (I forget the name).

How much time do they spend in the water vs. resting.

I am just learning it all.

try and give them live food, like crickets, also hey prolly wont eat while ur in the room in the begining, mine didnt eat but the fish started dissapearing so ya.

They will bask quite a bit during the day if left alone and they feel safe. The basking lights should be on for them around 12 hours a day on a day/night schedule.

It usually takes a while for new turtles to adjust to their surroundings and then they begin to eat. It took mine about a week after getting him. He finally ate freeze-dried shrimp and then I had to wean him off of it and onto pellets. Try soaking the pellets in the water from tuna (not the kind that's packed in oil). Also some cooked egg white might entice them. Once you get them eating, just wean them onto pellets/veggies and off the treat type foods.

Yeah my guys didn't start eating until a week after I got them too. Don't stop trying, but don't worry too much. I tried the whole tuna thing and that did nothing for me. If I remember correctly apple was the first thing they ate. Kinda odd. I was trying all kinds of things trying to get them to eat something...

Get some earthworms (even Walmart sells them) and cut one up into pieces...

you might want to start with making sure that your basking area is the perfect temperature. For mine, itz at 85 degrees. Once the heat is right and ur turtle gets used to his envirnment, shud start eating.
