Ok, now I'm totally confused. You have TWO turtles? I thought you were going to give the turtle to a pet store because you didn't have the time or resources to take care of it, or is it that you have 2 turtles one is sick one isn't and you're keeping the healthy turtle and getting rid of the sick one??

If you did as you said.. "researched for over a year" you would have known long before getting your turtle that those lagoons are not recommended for turtles. Also, IMO, if a place sells them and recommends them for your turtle, I'd think that a person would realize that that's not a very reputable seller.

I hope that you have a proper setup for the turtle(s) now that you are aware of what they need to remain healthy.

I never said I gave him away already. I said we were checking a store out. I also said I just bought the second one. We had to buy a lagoon in order to get the turtle, because it's illegal to buy baby turtles! They are both about 1.25 inches big and I know that is a little bit too big for a 20 gallon tank, but we were planning on upgrading in the next few months anyway.

I just don't get why you would go buy a second turtle when you have already mentioned that you don't have the resources to help the first one if it gets sick. I hate to use the analogy of the kid again, but if you had a kid and he got sick and you couldn't afford to take him to the doctor, would your response be to have another kid? I guess there are people in the world who have more kids than they can take care of, but welfare isn't going to send you a monthly check to help with the turtles! What are you going to do if Earl ends up sick too? And I say 'too' because I am not convinced that the other turtle is suddenly not sick anymore. If she was swimming lopsided and the vet says oh, that's ok, then I would be seeking a second opinion.

I just don't understand the logic of buying a second turtle. I have two, and if I had known what I know now, I would have never gotten two. One is expensive enough to take care of, but when you look at the idea that they might need seperated later, then the cost literally doubles. And you don't have the resources! Or do you have the resources for a new set up, but not for the care of a sick turtle? I'm confused and frustrated!

No, I really don't have the resources for a second turtle. But we just love the little guys so much. We've gotten so attached that decided we'll find a way to pay for them. Bubble's listing stopped after a few days, he swims normally now. However, we still took him to a vet anyway. She said he might have gotten a chill during shipping or it was just gas. The wound under his arm is already getting better, she said we shouldn't even worry about that. The check up wasn't all that expensive anyway. Which led me to make the decision to get another one. I have always loved turtles and now my boyfriend is really taking a shine to them as well. We feel bad for what we did and we our doing our best to make it right.

Now that you have them, be responsible and give them a really good home.

I'm glad you are deciding to keep them. The initial costs are way more than people originally think but creativity, opportunity and time goes a long way. Having a correct setup is the best way to prevent most future problems.
