I want to know why my turtles are peeling, it looks like dead skin it just flows in the current in the water as they swim then it falls off and floats in the tank.

I just need help knowing what it is causing this and how to stop it. I was told its a calcium deficiency and lack of UVB rays, I got a UVB light and cuttlebone that they bite on every once in awhile.

How often is it peeling?

RES's shed their skin because they are reptiles - common places are around the neck and near the back feet. The skin will float around, get caught in the filter, or some turtles will eat it. It's normal, and actually a sign that they are healthy. You don't want your turtle to stop shedding, that's not a good sign.

If they are shedding all over their bodies, and their behaviour starts changing, that would be cause for concern.

i would say about once or twice a month never really timed it though.

Oh goodness, perfect!! Sounds like you have a normal, growing turtle (which means healthy!) Don't be concerned - it's totally cool!
