Ever since i upgraded my tank (it been around a month since he has been in his new crib) he wont let me be near him while he is basking. What can i do so he not so freaked when i walk by or just want to observe. By freaked i mean jumps off the dock swims around crazily and sometimes smashes into rocks or the glass.

I've had mine for almost 2 years and one of them still does that. Not much you can do.

I'd approach the tank slowly. My female RES would sometimes freak out also, but lately she's been pretty calm when basking. I try not to make any eye contact and avoid looking in her direction for too long (I picked up that trick on the subway :)). Anyway, you can cover the basking area so you don't accidentally disturb him but overall, like Jen said, there's not much you can do.
