what are recommendations about leaving an infared light on at night? just as a heat lamp. when my zoomed light blew i used an infared light for heat just until i could get another zoomed, and leo used it. should i keep it on at night in case he gets cold?

Your turtles don't need a light on at night, you should only need your water heater to keep them warm.

I use infared (red heat) bulbs in the winter with hatchlings to help keep the ambient air temp temp up at night. Some people do use them to warm the basking area for turtles who sleep on them at night. Depending on the room temp, if you think it's too cool for your turtle, you could keep it on at night. You could also cover most of the tank at night to trap in the warmth from the water heater (I'm assuming your turtle has one).

I dont' use one, my turtles realize that staying up on the rock when it's 60 degrees isn't a good idea and dive into the water. Just make sure you water heater is on all the time.
