General Care Discussion :: Pulsing Sac.

I have never noticed this before, but when my turtle stretches out when he basks, there is a little sac type thing by his hind leg that keeps moving in and out. This sounds like a silly question, but what is it?

He's just breathing, totally normal......

Thanks, I was a little worried. I am going to take these pebbles out, even though most are bigger than his head, they are still only the size of a dime and I am just too worried something will go wrong. It will look kind of gross though, but I will just have to get some bigger rocks.

All of my turtles have big sagging fat sacs out in the rear, it's a natural thing when they get big and old, though you may want to cut back on feeding to once every 2 days if it gets too big in proportion to your turtle's size. I feed them every 2-3 days now (it also saves money, ), and while they are like savages when they eat now, I see a 10-15% decrease in their sac sizes.

My turtle is only 2 inches big...it was basically some skin that went in and out as they breathed, I guess.

yep thats exactly what it is. I use to say the same thing to myself when i got my turtle. Had no idea what the hell was going on. Realized it was on both sides and happened when he was breathing so kinda knew after that.
But it is a lil weird still have to admit.

I'm unclear from what was written if this "sac" is by/behind only one leg or both... A two-inch turtle with fat sacs?? If it's behind only one leg, you might want to post a picture of the area.

no, it's not fat. It was just kind of an area behind his hind legs that moved in and out

Well then it's normal and fine, they're simply breathing.
