What I've just about decided where shell conditions are concerned, if there's a condition that might be fungus or bacterial but you don't know for sure, go ahead and treat with hibiclense. If applied correctly it can't hurt and if it's an infection it will stop it. I think it would be better to stop it early on rather than later when it's serious

That's just my personal opinion of course! :)

Really cute turtles by the way. Their coloring is quite varied!

well i would imagine john and aeryn are getting bored with their diet. our fridge has been, how shall we say, a pos (to put it nicely) so we couldn't really store a variety. lately carrots and lettuce have been the easiest thing to get for them, and they've gone a bit orange from it =Þ

we did just get a new fridge, so they'll have a more varied diet and (hopefully) less orange.

I'd like to see a closer pic as well. Is that the only area on the shell that has the white?

yeah i did notice a couple of little white spots on slip as well. i'll try to investigate further tonight, if that's not doable it'll have to wait 'til the weekend.

how much is hibecleanse? i have literally $.04 in my bank account right now, so i'll have to wait 'til friday to get it. what can i use until then?

I bought hibiclens for around 10$ at walgreens. I believe you can use betadine solution, too.

If it's fungus you could try using some powder for athletes foot. I use that on my bearded dragon eggs if the incubator gets too humid to prevent them from growing mold on the shells. Just dust it very lightly on the spot and let them sit dry for a while, then wipe/rinse it off before putting him back in the water. I wonder if a little baking soda paste might work too.

I wouldn't use that on the turtles. It's not really specifically for fungal infections. Betadine is pretty inexpensive as far as I know. You should be able to get a small bottle of it too.

I've heard that Hibiclense is generally better than Betadine. I have an easier time working with it and I usually make a mess with Betadine.

I've also heard that using too much Betadine is bad as well?

You know..when my girlfriend got her ears pierced the girl who did it told her to apply Hibiclens on her ears atleast twice a day. Anyway, we went to a CVS and asked the pharmacist if there was something else we could use (we were short 6$) and he pointed out a "generic" CVS brand of hibiclens and said it should pretty much work about the same. We paid like 3$ for a bottle of it..I assume it would be okay to use on a turtle, right?
