None of them ever like when you poke into their hind legs. You have to put them on the floor, let them walk, and when they stop, then you have an opportunity to poke.

Most turtles don't like to be picked up so you have to put them down in order to check them.

When my RES is trying to climb something, like a pillow for her or my leg, she'll stretch when climbing. You could use that time to gently feel for them. And, if you cannot feel them, it does not mean she is not gravid. Her first clutch of eggs could be very small.

The only precise way of knowing is an x-ray at a vet.

Then you follow them around until they stop walking. Turtles will eventually STOP walking. They don't just keep on going and going and going. They will stop. You just follow follow follow & be patient. Then you can check the back legs.

If you really need to know if she has eggs or not, take her to a vet. The vet can x-ray the turtle.

Hard to say. It will vary from vet to vet and in different parts of the country. Why don't you call the vet and ask? It's the only way to be sure.

I recently paid $100, which I would say is at the high range. It will vary, but you should get an answer if you call them.
